摘要
The large number and high cost of liquid chromatographic chiral stationary phases have caused confusion and consternation among chromatographers. Recently, we developed a chiral stationary phase with multi-modal capabilities that can resolve completely different sets of enantiomers in different chromatographic modes, thereby serving as several columns in one. The naphthylethylcarbamate-beta-cyclodextrin column acts as a pi-complex hydrogen-bonding chiral stationary phase in the normal-phase mode; it functions as a unique cyclodextrin phase in the reversed-phase mode; and it serves as a cellulosic-like phase when used with polar organic solvents, such as methanol, acetonitrile, and ethanol.
