摘要
After the introduction of robotic surgery for rectal cancer, the safety and feasibility of robotic rectal cancer surgery was demonstrated. However, early comparative studies between laparoscopic and robotic surgery did not show a significant postoperative benefit. Recently, it was reported that robotic rectal surgery showed better postoperative outcomes than laparoscopic surgery with regard to postoperative recovery, pain and function preservation. In addition, robotic transanal specimen extraction was safely performed while maintaining a lower level of postoperative pain and recovery time. All of these findings should be validated with well-designed comparative studies. As robotic technology advances and continues to be studied, the use of robotic surgical systems will become more common among colorectal surgeons.
