INVITRO SURVIVAL OF AMASTIGOTE FORMS OF TRYPANOSOMA-CRUZI IN MEDIA CONDITIONED BY VERO CELLS

Several media have been tested for acellular culture of amastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi. The amastigote forms for inocula of cultures were obtained from cultures of infected Vero cells. The media were grouped in lots. The first one was the control lot; in the second one, the media were in contact with a culture of Vero cells during 24 h; in the third one, the media were in contact with a culture of T. cruzi-infected Vero cells after 24 h postinfection during 24 h; in the fourth one, the media were in contact with a culture of T. cruzi-infected Vero cells after 8 days postinfection during 24 h. Changes were not observed in any media with regard to T. cruzi amastigote survival. Notwithstanding, amastigote-epimastigote differentiation occurs in Grace's medium control but there was no differentiation in Grace's media which were in contact with Vero cells (both infected or non-infected). © 1990.
