QUINALIZARINCOMPLEXONE - A REAGENT FOR THE PHOTOMETRIC-DETERMINATION OF BORON

Quinalizarin is frequently used for the photometric determination of boron but this work shows that the sensitivity of the method can be significantly enhanced by using its quinalizarincomplexone derivative (QAA). The work was carried out with a 0. 015% solution of QAA, which was stable over a period of one year, and a solution containing 0. 050 g/ml H//3BO//3 of especially pure grade. The calibration graph for the determination of boron with QAA was constructed using pure solutions. The duration of the determination was 2 h. The method was successfully tested using samples of standard steels.
