摘要
The (1 x 3) phase of Pt{110} is shown to be stabilized by Ca and K impurities in the outermost layers of the surface. This structural phase is characterized by time-of-flight scattering and recoiling spectrometry (TOF-SARS). The results reveal that the surface is reconstructed into (1 x 3) troughs in which part of the central second-layer rows remain. A 0.24 +/- 0.08 angstrom inward relaxation of the first layer atoms is observed. The proposed structure of (1 x 3)-Pt{110} is contrasted with previous work on the (1 x 3)-{110} surfaces of Pt, Au, and Ir.
