STANDARDIZATION ACTIVITIES FOR STANDARD PARTS LIBRARY IN JAPAN

To support designing machines which utilize the standard parts such as bearings, micro-switches and so on, it is necessarily for CAD systems to access directly to attributes, design equations and drawings of standard parts. Standardization activities for machine-readable standard parts information have begun in several countries. In this report standardization activities in Japan are introduced. Major topics are on JIS draft of ''Logical Description Format of Engineering Information for CAD Systems'' and the current status of commercial electronic catalogues.
