Influence of Sharia Law on the Situation of Woman in Islam

Since Sharia law penetrates every pore of Islamic society, especially family law, it essentially defines the identity and the role of woman in Islam. While women played an important role at the beginning of Islam, their role gradually decreased until they completely disappeared into the private area. This gave rise to an androcentric view of the world, which is still valid. The intention of the treatise is to present the sources of Islamic law and its schools of law and to show that Islamic society could become more ethical in its relation to women.
