GENERALIZED FRENKEL-KONTOROVA MODEL FOR STRUCTURAL MODULATIONS IN BISMUTH HIGH-TC SUPERCONDUCTORS AND RELATED-COMPOUNDS

摘要
Structural modulations in bismuth-based high-T(c) superconductors and in compounds that are isostructural with bismuth superconductors axe investigated by constructing a generalized Frenkel-Kontorova model. The presence of principal and subsidiary maxima in the model potential due to Bi ions leads to a rich variety of ground-state ion configurations. The formation of zigzag Bi-O chains in some of these compounds with the insertion of extra oxygen can be simulated by this model. We find that the space-group B2/m11 is a possible candidate for Bi10Sr15Fe10O46, Which is isostructural with the n = 2 phase of the bismuth superconductors Bi2Sr2Can-1CunO4+2n+delta.
