This study was designed to determine the effects of stallion vesiculectomy on seminal characteristics after incubation at 37 C and 5 C and after freezing. Vesiculectomy resulted in decreased total ejaculate volume (P<.0002) and gel volume (P<.0001). Following vesiculectomy, spermatozoa with normal morphology decreased (P<.02) from 73 to 70%. After freezing and thawing, percent live (P<.03) and percent motile spermatozoa (PMS) (P<.04) were greater post-vesiculectomy and the rate of forward movement (RFM) (P<.09) tended to be greater. Agglutination was less (P<.01) post-vesiculectomy. Following incubation at 5 C and subsequent warming to 37 C, percent live spermatozoa (P<.08) and PMS (P<.06) tended to be greater after surgery and agglutination was decreased (P<.05). © 1990, William E.
