A "learning network'' as innovative way of internal continuing education.

Where the providing of in-house education and training on special-subject and methodology topics is concerned, Siemens Austria's Program and System Engineering Division PSE has moved away from the classic approach of offering training via an in-house training center towards a more loosely organized "learning network''. Given the organization's international set-up, this has particular advantages in terms of cost, content up-to-dateness, provision of local content, and pedagogical efficiency. This article briefly outlines the challenges of in-house training and learning present in a large IT enterprise, introduces the approach adopted by PSE in detail (based on two examples from daily practice), highlights the critical success factors, and provides a resume, also with respect to how this concept can be applied in a broader context.
