STORIES OF THE OLDER: MEMORIES OF CAPTIVITY AND JAGUNCAS

The present work claim to realize an description of the collective memories' narratives concerning Sao Pedro, one fazenda (farm) located in the county of Monte Santo, in Bahia backlands. The main subject of these narratives constitutes the ancestors' experience in slavery or acting as jaguncas (people that participated in Canudos' war). The narratives are described through different points of view among the familias (families) that constitutes the community and beyond a wide context that involves the municipality and also those who were slave owners. Currently organized as the collective identity of fundo de pasto, the context that involves the production of the collective memory is related to a opening possibility as a quilombo (marronage) community, category known recently by the Sao Pedro's dwellers that have the possibility to decide in favor of a recognition process through this category of collective identity.
