AUDITORY-PHONEMIC PROCESSING AND READING-COMPREHENSION IN A GROUP OF DYSLEXIC-CHILDREN

摘要
The purpose of this research work has been to determine the weight of different variables related to phonemic perceptual processing in silent reading comprehension, in a group of 44 severely retarded and 20 normal readers, aged 12 and of low socio-economic level. The comparison between both groups showed that retarded readers performed significantly worse than normal in all the variables assessing phonemic perceptual processing. Nevertheless the same variables in the retarded group correlated significantly with silent reading comprehension, while in the normal readers group correlations were not significant. It is inferred that in spite of deficiencies in phonological perceptual processing, slow readers are more prone to use reading strategies based on those skills to achieve text comprehension, than normal readers.
