摘要
The use of fiberglass/epoxy column jackets and passive energy dissipation systems as alternative methods for the reduction of the seismic hazard of concrete buildings is discussed. The use of the fiberglass/epoxy column jackets has the effect of increasing the shear capacity and the lateral displacement and flexural ductility of columns. The use of passive energy dissipation systems has the effect of reducing the force and deformation demands on buildings by dissipating the earthquake induced energy. These new concepts and technologies are presented through the seismic retrofit of two buildings: a seven-story hotel and an eight-story school building located in the city of Los Angeles.
