NOISE PROPERTIES OF DC-SQUIDS ON Y1BA2CU3O7-X-THIN FILMS

DC-SQUIDs based on Y1Ba2Cu3O7-X-thin films prepared by laser ablation and dc-magnetron sputtering, were investigated. The films exhibit transition temperatures of T(co) = 88K and critical current densities at T = 77K of j(c)(77K) = 10(6)Acm-2. The Josephson junctions were formed at a step on the MgO-substrate surface. The SQUID's were patterned with a focused Nd:YAG-laser beam. The properties of the thin film Josephson junctions were compared with RSJ-like grain boundary weak links, which have been investigated using the break junction method. The SQUID's show a clear flux modulation, the 1/f-noise intercept point was f = 10kHz. The following parameters of the SQUID's were obtained at T = 40K in the white noise region: a voltage-flux-transfer function of 20-mu-V/PHI-0, a flux resolution of 5.10(-6) PHI-0/Hz1/2, and an energy resolution of 6.10(-29)J/Hz with a SQUID-loop inductance of L = 30pH.
