Behaviour of polyurethanes in the simultaneous dyeing and shrink-resist treatment of wool

The simultaneous dyeing and shrink-resist treatment of wool materials using chromium dyestuffs and polyurethanes was investigated. The process produced level dyeings and the fabrics were shrink-resistant. Furthermore, the handle and strength of fabrics were acceptable and the diminution of chromium in effluents was considerable. In general, better paler shades were obtained with the dye/polurethanes treatment than those obtained with conventional exhaust dyeing, using the same concentration of dye.
