MAGNETIZATION MEASUREMENTS ON ALPHA-(BEDT-TTF)2KHG(SCN)4 [WHERE BEDT-TTF IS BIS(ETHYLENEDITHIO)TETRATHIAFULVALENE]

摘要
We report measurements of the steady and oscillatory part of the magnetization with a torquemeter in alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2KHg(SCN)4 in fields up to 14T and temperatures down to 1.3K. The absolute amplitude of the de Haas-van Alphen oscillations in the magnetic ground state regime is very small and amounts to mu(o)M almost-equal-to 7.5x10(-7)T for T = 1.4K and B = 14T. The magnetic interaction effect can therefore be ruled out as possible origin for the well known splitting of the oscillations in this compound. The magnetic phase transition at 10K can be seen as a change in the slope of the temperature dependence of the anisotropic steady susceptibility chi(a). The torque caused by chi(a) follows the expected sinTHETAcosTHETA dependence, THETA being the tilt angle between the field and the normal to the conducting plane of the sample.
