SOCIAL-MOBILITY AMONG THE SCHEDULED CASTES IN BIHAR - A CASE-STUDY OF BARH BLOCK

The paper looks into the trend of social mobility among the scheduled caste communities in the rural setting of Barh Block under the jurisdiction of Patna District, Bihar. Four major scheduled castes like Chamar, Dusadh, Musahar and Pasi have been brought under the study and altogether 200 respondents belonging to 18 different villages have been interviewed. The gradual processes of educational and occupational mobility of the people with conspicuous backwardness and untouchability have been analysed on inter-generation levels.
