Scientists collect data in ever increasing amounts to meet legal and fiscal imperatives. They convert some small part of it into information, and from that distill a precious drop of knowledge. Ideally all of the knowledge and information should be shared concurrently and retrospectively among colleagues. This assures that time of development is minimized, work efficiency is maximized, and creativity is optimized. Exchange of information and knowledge breeds quality, new ideas, and profit. © 1992, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
