'Consuming my loyalty': Youth, popular culture and gender contestations in Kenya

participation in the 2002 election process in Sabatia Constituency of Vihiga District in Kenya. The article draws its basis from musical compositions that highlighted the umbilical cord often tugged on by politicians and composers alike. The experience of the majority of young people generated not just artistic expressions but also became a fecund source of political engagement, as well as depicting their uncompromising opposition to political patronage and intense condemnation of their disillusionment. In this article, specific attention is paid to the representation of marriage and politics in the song, 'Dot. Com Lady'.
