摘要
This paper considers the nature of selection by consequences as an explicative mechanism in biology and social science, and provides an account of technological innovation as an evolutionary process. It discusses the evolutionary economics framework developed by Metcalfe and Gibbons as a prelude to the development of an evolutionary model of technological innovation that indicates the role of marketing and strategy. The proposed model incorporates a 'technology-marketing-strategy continuum' as a central analytical and explanatory device, and incorporates the appropriation of innovation benefit as the ultimate evolutionary mechanism.
