摘要：
Since data gathering is usually expensive compared to data analysis, it is sensible to extract as much information as possible from data that is available and from any other source. Sometimes, extraction of information from the sampling rule is possible. This paper presents an operationally useful definition of sampling rule, based on the concepts of stopping rules and selection rules. Conditions under which a sampling rule is informative are derived. Finally, two examples of informative sampling rules are explored.
