Environmental legislation and management of protected areas in Maranhao

It approaches the planning and management of protected areas in the state of Maranhao. The survey was conducted based on the methods of descriptive and qualitative approach in the hypothetical - deductive method supported on the following instruments: survey and analysis of bibliographic material; research on specialized sites and use an image that indicates the Conservation Units of Maranhao. The results show that the Law 9985 of July 2000, establishing the National System of Nature Conservation Units and the Code of the State Environmental Protection Maranhao established by Law 5,405 of 1992 and the Law 9413 which established the State System Conservation Units, are not much for planning programs and management aimed at categories of System, it is easily verified, since the 11 Conservation Units the Maranhao has only three of them have the Management Plan, the justification is that the state does not provides technical and professional apparatus for the management of Units, which goes against the objectives set out in legislation.
