EFFECT OF MECHANICAL TOP PULLING AND CHEMICAL TOP DESICCATION ON THE INCIDENCE OF LATE BLIGHT TUBER ROT

摘要
Mechanical vine pulling, chemical top desiccation, and use of both methods for top killing potatoes were examined for their effects on the incidence of late blight tuber rot. No significant differences (P = 0.05) in the average number and weight of tubers exhibiting symptoms of late blight tuber rot were found between the mechanical vine pulling and top desiccation treatments. However, in one year of the study, use of the two treatments together resulted in significantly greater incidences of late blight tuber rot as compared to mechanical vine pulling alone.
