摘要
The bone char (BC) is an adsorbent material, which is manufactured from the waste of bones of animals that are carbonized at certain conditions of temperature, time and oxygen level. The properties of BC depend upon the preparation conditions and the precursor material. The BC is mainly composed of hydroxyapatite, calcium carbonate and carbon. The adsorption capacity of BC has been attributed to the hydroxyapatite content. The BC is one of the best materials for adsorbing fluoride present in drinking water and the adsorption capacity of BC towards fluoride is twice the capacity of the activated alumina. This last material has been extensively used for removing fluoride from drinking water.
