Child care workers represent a growing occupational group. As yet, little is known about the people in this occupational group, the types and levels of job stressors they encounter, or the effects of job stress on their own and others' well-being. A discussion of the importance of gaining detailed information concerning the causes and effects of job stress in child care workers is presented in this paper. In addition, the person-environment fit model of job stress is used as a conceptual tool to review current research and to organize priorities for future research. © 1990 Human Sciences Press, Inc.
