摘要
Objective: To interview Afro-descendant nurses, educated at the University of Sao Paulo School of Nursing (EEUSP). It takes on themes related to racism and prejudice. Method: It is an exploratory and descriptive study founded on propositions of thematic oral history, developed through recorded interviews following a semi-structured script and open questions. Results: The collected data has permitted the recapture of short stories in which was possible to observe not only legacies of a segregationist socio-cultural mentality but also significant inter-ethnic experiences for the construction of a professional identity, as they create unique stories which reflect stereotypes. Conclusion: Recognizing racist practices in the field of nursing may facilitate reflections on necessary competencies for nurses, possibly transforming the profession, becoming more humanistic in relation to care and the caretaker.
