FEEDING OF GROWING PIGS .2. INCLUSION OF HOMEMADE PROTEIN MOLASSES AND HIGH-TEST MOLASSES IN DIETS

A total of 96 hybrids from a rotational Duroc, Yorkshire, Landrace and Hampshire crossbred and a liveweight of approximately 12 kg was used with the objective of evaluating 0, 25 and 50% of cereal substitution by high test molasses or homemade protein molasses (HPM) according to a random block design with eight replications. Linear relation ships were found between the level of high-test molasses and HPM inclusion, daily gain and final live weight. These indicate a slight reduction of these indices as the substitution level of traditional feeds are increased, but the amount is very small. Also, linear relationships were encountered in feed conversion and energy and protein sources favouring the inclusion of high test and HPM molasses. It is concluded that the reduction of 50% of the cereals by high test and HPM molasses is feasible.
