Even more than 50 years after the discovery of the fission process, investigations of nuclear fission, especially fission induced by neutrons, is still a lively field of research. This survey will present the most recent theoretical and experimental results and their contribution to the understanding of the fission process. The focus will be on selected topics of fission fragment characteristics, e.g., high resolution studies, odd-even effects, fission of odd-charge nuclei etc. In addition, new instrumental developments, especially the ''rediscovery'' of the ionization chamber, will be highlighted.
