Diachronic aspects in suffixal studies

We present, in this article, the research methodology used for diachronic studies suffixes, according to methods created in the Historical Morphology Group Portuguese (GMHP), a research group created in 2004, and the Center for Research Support in Etymology and History Portuguese Language (NEHiLP), research center created in 2013, led by Dr. Mario Eduardo Viaro and based in the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH), University of Sao Paulo (USP). The research was done by analyzing the Latin suffix -mentum and its derivatives in Spanish (-mento/-miento), French (-ment), Italian (-mento), Romanian (-mant/-ment) and Portuguese (-mento/-menta). We present the formation of corpora used and, at the end, the result of the analysis made.
