This study examined the relationship between alcohol expectancies and female drinking behavior in three ethnic groups: Irish, Italian, and Hispanic. Results revealed that although a relationship exists between drinking outcome expectancies and ethnic drinking behavior, its degree and precise nature vary from one group to another. Different expectancy domains were related to the drinking practices of the three ethnic groups. The complexity of the results and their implications for better understanding the relationships between alcohol-related beliefs and ethnic drinking behavior are discussed.
