The New Age of Aquarius

The purposes of this paper are complementary: to present an explanation of New Age (NA) from the announcement of the Age of Aquarius, and to demonstrate the intimate connection between NA and present day society. The lyrics of Aquarius, as part of the musical Hair, proclaimed a NA and so it was understood since then. Musical facts as The Beatles and Woodstock Festival followed this expectation of a dream of universal fraternity. During this period of 1967/69 other social movements concurred, adding to NA some elements of cultural stubbornness and contestation, and some of them enlarging the spiritual characteristics of NA, or even giving to NA a kind of actual manifestation. As a mentality of extreme toleration and syncretism NA seems to be the spiritual ambiance which will give birth to new religious movements.
