Subjects of Russian Empire - a Failed Attempt to Settlement in Africa. "Russian Germans" from Volhyn in German East- and South West Africa in Early 20th Century (Based on Archival Sources)

In early 20th century the situation of Germans living in Russian province of Volhyn for a hundred years aggravated. In search of better life they started emigrating to different parts of the world including new German colonies, among the latter first of all to German East Africa. But Germany did not approve this plan preferring the settlement of "German Germans" in East Africa. Moreover the setters from Volhyn failed to integrate in the colonial economy in East Africa and after some years demanded to be repatriated back to Russia. And many of them returned back. As to German South West Africa, the Russian Germans were refused to settle there at all.
