摘要
An exercise is presented that enables the instructor of introductory anthropology courses to utilize the typical American student's cultural orientation toward individualism and psychology. Drawing on methods ordinarily associated with psychoanalysis, the author proposes a technique designed to facilitate a confrontation between students' conscious ideologically-driven beliefs and their unconscious social experience in the classroom. The goals are to develop an appreciation for the students' resistance to the latent social dynamics in the classroom; to introduce the students' unconscious as a resource in their education; and to suggest the use of techniques that tap the unconscious for pedagogical purposes.
