Laboratory diagnosis was used at a large scale to clear up tuberculosis suspicion in cattle for slaughter in the region of Chemnitz for which purposes 338 samples were tested in 1987 and 1988. In 87 samples, abscesses were pathomorphologically recorded primarily from lymph nodes of the respiratory and digestive tracts. Rhodococcus equi was bacteriologically isolated from 67 samples, but mycobacteria were not found at all.
