POSTGRADUATE TRAINING IN PSYCHIATRY IN THE UNITED-KINGDOM

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has started a training scheme for overseas doctors. The scheme is for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years and the training is approved for sitting the membership exam in psychiatry. The scheme provides training in general psychiatry and in subspecialities in the field. There are other training courses in various teaching hospitals in the UK. Some are tailored according to the needs of the applicant and require the payment of fees. This article describes some of these schemes and points out some necessary requirements which an interested applicant from overseas may find helpful.
