SEXUAL PRACTICES OF THE SEX WORKERS IN A RED-LIGHT AREA OF CALCUTTA

AIDS in India will have serious economic, social and demographic consequences if adequate and immediate steps are not taken. The present attempt is to give a closer look to the sexual behaviour and practices of the HRB group in order to develop appropriate strategies for the prevention and control of HIV infection. The study conducted among sex workers in a red light area shows that on an average only 40 per cent of the practices are protected. It further provides data on the clientele profile, sex worker profile, their behaviour and practices and gives an insight to the magnitude of the problem.
