The impact of foreign investments in the automobile industry on local economic development in Spain

Using elements from traditional linkage and strategy-focused approaches, the impact of investments in car assembly plants in the Spanish periphery between 1970 and 1992 is examined. The analysis shows that the local input share did not change substantially; the nature of local dependency however altered due to changing investment and procurement strategies of the car producers.
