Notes on performance and representation in brazilian theater history - a tragic dialectic

This article discusses the theory of performance in Brazil. We consider that such importation - coupled with a highly contradictory and uneven historical background - has generated among us several fractured theatrical manifestations that could be categorized under a broader concept of tragedy. We seek to identify, in these crucial moments, demonstrations of a certain tragic dialectic that, not withstanding its diversity, could characterize this process capable of generating new works as lacerated as the social fabric to which they correspond.
