FORMATION OF SUPERSATURATED SOLID-SOLUTIONS BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING IN THE SYSTEM COPPER IRON

摘要
The formation of super saturated solid solution in Cu - Fe system with positive heat of formation during mechanical alloying has been investigated. The solid solutions in wide concentration range were obtained. Alloys with 0 to 60 at. %. Fe have fcc structure, while alloys with more than 70 at. % Fe have bcc structure. The dependence of obtained solid solution concentrations on mechanical alloying conditions is shown. The possible mechanism of solid solution formation by rapid quenching of liquid phase (the fusion zones) which arises in the particles deformed by localized shear during a collision between balls was suggested. The experimental results which confirm the dependence of obtained solid solution concentration on ball size were presented.
