QUO-VADIS, AGRICULTURAL-ECONOMICS

In search of new strategies for the european agriculture the agricultural economists developed a large number of different suggestions. In spite of this great variety it is possible to find some common main focusses in the wide spectrum of courrent papers. Therefore in the present case it was the aim to asses relevant research for pointing out main trends. Stimulated by the presentations at the 6th EAAE congress this paper diagnoses the following clearcut trends as main emphasises of the present research: At first agricultural economists make quite an effort concerning international relationships. They concentrate especially on the liberalization of foreign trade and on changes in Eastern Europe because of epochal political events. Secondely a considerable number of economists focuses her attention on ecological aspects and on problems of rural and regional development. This orientation can be interpreted as a counterpoint to the increase of the importance of supra-national institutions and as counterbalance to pollution. Thirdly there is an endeavor to study interrelations between people working in agriculture and their social environment especially in micro economics. Anyhow there exists a host of advices about future of agricultural economics. The real development will decide, which avenue will be the adequate for European agriculture.
