PREDICTION OF HEAT-STORAGE COEFFICIENT OF 2-PHASE SYSTEMS WITH SPHERICAL INCLUSIONS

A theoretical model to predict the heat storage coefficient (HSC) of two-phase materials from the values of HSCS of the constituent phases and their volume fractions is presented. Two-phase materials have been assumed to contain spherical particles arranged in a regular manner in a three-dimensional cubic geometry, such that each unit cell contains a sphere inside it. The Hse of the unit cell has been determined by applying the resistor model. A porosity correction term and a correction term for a high Hse ratio of the constituent phases have been incorporated in the model. Theoretical calculations of the HSC have been carried out for suspensions and loose granular systems, and comparisons have been made with other models and experimental values cited in the literature. The values predicted by the proposed model are in close agreement with experimental values of HSCS reported in the literature and more accurate than those obtained from existing models.
