EFFECT OF THE SURFACE FREE-ENERGY OF THE SUBSTRATE ON THE MORPHOLOGY OF VACUUM-DEPOSITED ORGANIC FILMS

摘要
This paper examines the effect of the substrate on the morphology of organic films, using glass plates modified by the adsorption of monomolecular films. The geometrical flatness of vacuum-deposited polystyrene film increases with increasing surface free energy of the substrate. On the other hand, uniform deposition of hexatriacontane occurs on the substrate with a surface free energy of around 30 mN m-1, but the film is textured on polar substrates with higher surface energies. Autophobicity and/or the Stranski-Krastanov model can explain the growth of textured hexatriacontane film on such surfaces.
