Novel studies are required to investigate the clinical, pathophysiological, and therapeutic facets of migraine. The many controversial clinical patterns, such as status migrainosus and migrainous infarction, need to be specifically studied. Biochemical and enzyme studies are needed to provide data on potential triggering factors including hormones, foods, and beverages. Improved understanding of the trigeminovascular system, neurogenic inflammation, neurotransmitters, and the various serotonin receptors will pave the way for the development of novel drugs for the acute or long term treatment of migraine.
