A HALF-CENTURY OF URBAN-GEOGRAPHY IN THE UNITED-STATES

A session at the AAG meeting in 1988 was concerned with the causes and aftermath of the demise of geography at Harvard University. Several of the participants decided that it would be appropriate to review at the next meeting the development of urban geography, in which Harvard was one of the pioneers. Coincidentally, this year marked the fiftieth year of my career as a professional geographer. Therefore, this presentation includes both general observations concerning the changing character and status of urban geography and a number of personal reminiscences. © 1990 by V. H.
