DIRECT DETERMINATION OF THE RATE-CONSTANT FOR THE REACTION CH2 + O2 WITH A LMR-SPECTROMETER

In the present paper the author reports on a direst study of the reaction of methylen radicals in their **3B//1 ground state with molecular oxygen. The reaction was investigated in an isothermal discharge flow system with laser magnetic resonance detection of CH//2. The influence of side reactions was eliminated by the use of two different radical sources and low initial radical concentrations. The experimental results obtained using the two different CH//2-sources show good agreement. In general, the values from the discharge source are slightly higher. This may be due to the fact, that in this system the CH//2-radicals were generated at the upper end of the flow tube and that their initial concentrations varied for different positions of the probe.
