The intercultural challenges in medical French training

Indeed, the intercultural component of the medical French training is one of the main challenges that a trainer usually faces since he or she is neither a medical expert, nor knowledgeable about the target culture health system. Due to the necessarily collective aspect of care work, communicative interactions in a medical environment are many and complex, and the student must develop a set of values and his/her existential competence to learn how to communicate assertively among colleagues and patients. Thus, the constant adaptation by the physician of his or her communication according to the interlocutor and the intercultural context constitutes a true "exchange of identities".
