HUMAN-RESOURCE GENERATION IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - INDIAN EFFORT

India, a developing country with nearly 900 million population, has been making serious efforts in use of Information Technology (IT) for improving Quality of Life. One of the key elements of its national policy has been human resource generation in the area of IT, to act as a catalyst for national growth. The need for reorientation of Education System has been long felt; but the conventional setup has been found wanting in providing right type of computer literate manpower. A noval scheme of Computer Education, primarily dependent on private sector has been launched in 1991 and is gathering momentum. The paper discusses this Indian Effort in human resource generation, highlighting the issues and implications.
