摘要
In the British context, regionalism and nationalism have usually been seen as part of the same continuum. This paper argues that, on the contrary, they derive from quite different principles and histories. Regionalism is based on a political ideology and strategy which derives from a modernist theory of state-building and maintenance, while nationalism questions the mandate of that state to govern the territory in question. In Scotland in particular, nationalism has grown as regionalism has waned.
