摘要：
An approximate, but general, analytical result for the sorptivity of a soil is derived. It provides an estimate of the sorptivity when ponding occurs at the soil surface, or when the diffusivity is infinite at saturation. Two earlier results appear as limiting cases of this general result. Its accuracy is also checked by comparison with the only exact solution available at present.
