The STOP-Bang questionnaire is a concise and easy-to use screening tool to identify patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The questionnaire has been validated in medical and surgical patients and in different ethnic groups. A STOP-Bang score of 0 to 2 indicates a low risk of OSA; a STOP-Bang score of 3 to 4 indicates an intermediate risk of OSA; and a STOP-Bang score of 5 to 8 indicates a high risk of OSA; a STOP-Bang score of 3 or greater plus a high serum HCO3-level also increases the specificity for moderate/severe OSA.
